Nutrition Intervention Needed

Thursday I was 235.

Today I am 245.

That, my friends, is what a weekend of eating garbage and drinking will do for you.  10 pound weight gain in 5 days.

It eclipses the fact that I ran 9 miles for only the second time ever on Sunday.  It makes no difference that I used to weigh 308 pounds.  It makes no difference that I am training to run in the Outback Steakhouse Distance Classic on Thanksgiving Day in Jacksonville, FL.

No amount of exercise will compensate for overeating junk food.

START NOW!

That’s been my motto through this process as detailed here.

I need to refocus on food.  The running has become, dare I say, too easy.  Every run is hard, but it’s not as hard to DO them… to get myself out the door… as it used to be.  I’ve taken for granted the fact that if I eat normally and run daily, my weight stays the same.  The problem is that normal is still probably not that healthy.  And when I get off the wagon like I did this weekend, things can go wrong really quickly.

So I am committing to  focus very closely on my food intake over the next few months.  I will do my best to document it here.  If any of you know a good food diary program, perhaps even one with an output I could link to this journal, please let me know.  I am going to do my best to get under 230 by the time of the race.  Not only is that good for my health, but it should be good for my time as well.

As for today’s run, no major problems or issues.  Cooler weather is here, which made the run a little more enjoyable.  I ran it at my typical 10:20 pace.  The mid-week runs bump up from 4 miles to 5 miles tomorrow.  I’m ready.

  1. Bryan – Try using http://www.sparkpeople.com for your food and exercise tracking. I started it about a week or so ago and it’s awesome. You can give yourself a goal and it tells you how many calories, protein, fat, and carbs you can have if you burn a certain amount of calories from exercise and meet your weight goal. (Sorry that was wordy). You should really check it out – it has an obscene amount of information on it.

  2. I thought I already posted something but it doesn’t seem to be showing up. Try using http://www.sparkpeople.com. It’s an awesome website that you can track your nutrition and fitness on. You can set goals and such. I’ve been using it for a week or so and I love it.

    • Thanks, Erinn. I’ll look into it today!

I found out why your comment was not appearing. It was in the SPAM comment folder. Apparently something you said got it stuck there, not sure. Perhaps if you stopped offering to link me to nude pictures of Jenna Jameson or to promise “long lasting performance” like all the other SPAM comments I get, you wouldn’t find yourself in the SPAM filter! ;)

  3. Sorry Bryan – I won’t link to any naughty sites anymore. I was trying to be sly but apparently your spam filter has my number. :) Let me know what you think about the site.
