One thing is for sure, my running needs to be more consistent than my blogging if I want to have any chance of running the Outback Steakhouse Distance Classic half marathon on Thanksgiving Day.
I did indeed run over the weekend, but let time slip away from me, so i failed to update. This update will serve as a summary of the weekend runs, as well as Monday’s rest day.
Let’s start with Saturday. I honestly look forward to the Saturday morning run more than any other run. As I have said before, I am an early bird and do not like to sleep in, even on the weekends. So I welcome the opportunity to get up and put in a solid workout before the rest of the house is even awake. In fact, when I’m headed out to do chores, or off to Lauren’s volleyball game, or something else at 9am and I see all of the people out there running, I immediately think “suckers! I am already done!”
So this Saturday was a fine run. No real excitement. I finished at a 10:16 pace, which was fine because I was not pushing it very hard. I am trying to think about these short runs not as a challenge, but as something I can do almost without thinking. The reason is because I am still very scared of the longer distances, and I need to be comfortable when I complete 3 miles, especially when there are still 10 more miles to go.
Sunday morning was a little tougher. I over indulged on food and drink on Saturday night watching college football, and the result was just an uncomfortable run. I made it through the 5 mile run without major difficulties, but I did have to walk 2 times. That was disappointing, because I have done the 5 mile course without walking before, and it feels like I am going backwards when I have to walk now. It also put a little concern in my head for this upcoming Sunday, which will be a 6 mile run. This will be the greatest distance I have ever run on my own. I have run a 15k in a race several years ago, and I have an 8 and 9 mile training run earlier this year with a friend, but I walked a significant amount in both of those runs.
Nothing much to report on Monday, as it was a rest day. However, it is worth note that I have noticed my weight has really plateaued in the past 2 months. It is not because of exercise, because I am definitely working out more. It is because of diet. I believe I am eating more because I feel that I can get away with it due to the running. I also feel that I am m0re ravenous than I used to be. Don’t get me wrong, I used to be “hungry”, which sometimes is just another term for “bored” or “it’s time to eat,” but I am genuinely hungry much more often now. Unfortunately, I do not always attack this hunger the way I should.
I have done my best to take the matter into my own hands. I happen to be in charge of the grocery shopping this week, so we are all set for salads every night this week.
Monday is Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad
Tuesday is Grilled Pork Chops with Grilled Pineapple Salad
Wednesday is dinner at church, but there is a salad
Thursday is Taco Salad, ground turkey breast, low-fat sour cream, low-fat cheese
Friday is still up in the air, however.
